The Miss Universe 2017 is underway and soon a new queen will be crown from Las Vegas, Nevada in the 66th edition of the most important pageant contest in the world.
The showcase of culture in dress form at the national costume competition has no bearing on the preliminary scores, but it offers a glimpse into a contestant’s heritage and identity and can propel a candidate’s prospects.
In the swimwear section, the contestants wore Yamamay designs in either black or white in two pieces.
The evening gown segment is when the audience know who among the 92 candidates have the strongest stage presence, and therefore have the best chances to advance to the final rounds on November 26.
The national costume competition was already held on November 20 while the swimsuit and evening gown portions happened later on in Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The event is on TV on Fox Channel.
Just like last year’s edition, the preliminary interviews were conducted before the preliminary swimsuit and evening gown competitions. So, don’t be surprise to see some shock eliminations and inclusions in the semifinals.
Having the preliminary interviews first means the preliminary judges can get to know the candidates. This can highly influence judges perception of the candidates when they appear in the the succeeding events, such as the swimsuit and evening gown competitions.
